Tray Boswell, a Dallas native, has been bringing music to all since he was very
young. His parents bought him a piano when he was 5 years old after noticing
his aptitude for picking out songs by ear on a toy keyboard. Tray began taking
piano lessons and continued off-and-on for a few years, but he typically lacked
the patience to read music from the written page and primarily learned most of
his songs by coming up with his own arrangements entirely by ear.
His love for all types of music continued to grow rapidly, and by age 16 he was
playing nightly at a local Italian restaurant, already playing an eclectic
variety of selections ranging from ragtime to Beethoven to the Beatles. Tray
was always a crowd pleaser because he was known for playing songs you wouldn’t
expect to hear on a piano. Songs from popular TV commercials, Mozart, Alice In Chains, the theme song to
the Flintstones or even some Pink Floyd!
Tray graduated from Texas Tech in 1992 with a degree in Marketing,
but his real focus has remained on playing piano both solo and with various bands &
combos at several nightclubs and restaurants throughout his college years. After moving to Dallas, Tray landed several regular gigs at various Dallas restaurants and bars, many of which he continues to perform at still. Tray has developed quite a following in Dallas over the years, and recorded his first CD in 2002, entitled First
Takes – which it was. All of the selections he recorded were off-the-cuff and
completely unedited (which you can hear on this website.) He
is currently recording a new demo to reflect his various musical styles.
